There are lots of activities to do that don't require an app. Here are some ways to practice skills in different subjects at home.
LiteracyIn Literacy, we are working on spelling and sounding out consonant vowel consonant (CVC) words (for example cat, sit, top, etc).
Students are reading short books and retelling the beginning, middle, and end of stories. When reading with your child at home, ask your child about characters and the setting and have them retell the story to you. Are you having trouble staying motivated? Try to take on this reading challenge. Send your teacher a picture of you completing one of the boxes.
We have learned many sight words.
I, the, in, he, on, and, up, a, you, see, to, do, at, has, is, it, was, his, or, for, be, by, will, with, are Here's a fun game just in time for spring! You'll need paper (cut into strips), markers, and plastic eggs you can open. Write a sight word on each of the paper strips and place one strip in each egg. Hide the eggs all around your backyard or living room. Have a fun egg hunt with your child. Record one point for each egg found and two points if your child can read the sight word. How many points did your child get? Play again and see if she can get more points the next time. No eggs? No problem, just hide the strips of paper. |
MathIn Math, we are counting to 75 by ones and by 10s to 100. Practice counting at home. You can have the family take turns saying the next number.
Students are expected to recognize, count, and write all numbers to 20. Place a group of some sort of small object in a bag. LEGO, pennies, and cereal work well for this activity. Then have your child reach in the bag to pull out a handful. Have your child count the amount and write the number down. We are adding and subtracting two numbers within 10. Create story problems with your child. For example: Mrs. Bullard had 10 pencils. She gave 5 teachers a pencil. How many pencils does she have left? Have students draw a picture of the story and solve the problem. |
Sharing the PlanetWe are learning all about how the conservation of habitats protects living things. Go on walks around your home and identify the living things you find. Look for ways that you can help protect those living things.
